What is plaster?

Plaster is a simple combination of white cement, white marble aggregate and water which will give you that classic swimming pool look. While plaster is the most economical, it generally does not last as long as aggregate surfaces. Standard white plaster is the tried and true pool and spa surface finish, and remains a popular choice in spite of the other choices that have come into the market in recent years.

Why PebbleTec?

PebbleTec is the original pebble finish, and as a result of years of continued research and development, is recognized as the longest lasting, most durable pool interior available. PebbleTec is made from naturally water-tumbled pebbles, which has been specifically selected for consistency of quality and color. Every Pebble Tec, Pebble Sheen® and Pebble Fina® pool finish is a unique work of environmental art which is available only through the world’s finest pool builders. Our installers have been carefully selected, trained and licensed by Pebble Technology, Inc. Pebble Tec finishes maintain their beautiful appearance year after year, lasting longer than traditional plaster pool surfaces. We offer a comprehensive product warranty on all Pebble Tec finishes. The natural pebble finish creates a lustrous finish and produces a spectrum of colors as the sunlight changes throughout the day.

The Pebbles used are finely screened and naturally tumbled which means that even though the surface is bumpy, it is non-abrasive. The finer finishes of Pebble Sheen® and Pebble Fina® are even smoother.

Algae will grow on anything, but because the pebbles are non-porous, the algae will not bond as readily to Pebble Tec as it does to plaster or quartz surfaces. That means it can be easily cleaned without damage to the surface.

My pool plaster looks terrible. Can I just paint or acid wash my pool instead of re-plastering it?

Acid washes initially make the pool look brighter, but the acid eats away at the plaster and causes the surface to become porous and rough. We really discourage painting the pool surface as it is only a short term aesthetic solution. The paint may makes the pool look nice briefly, until the paint begins to peel off. Then when the homeowner is ready to properly refinish the pool, additional expenses are incurred to remove the layers of paint.
